I’m a fan of MELA so got Reeder on the basis that this should be great. It’s good, but not great. I worry that it has not been updated in a while, seeing it is a relatively new app. And the Filter feature could be better implemented - eg, it would be really useful to be able to filter on a particular feed AND on a particular keyword, but I can’t find a way to do this. Perhaps I’m missing something, but then the Help section is very basic and no real help at all. A terrific app inside there somewhere crying to get out!
Lots of potential, still early days

This is a nice looking app and having subscribed due to hitting the subscriptions limit I have some thoughts.I’m not against the relatively low cost annual subscription. The developer’s gotta eat and it keeps the app up to date and brings new features.That said, there’s some issues I take with the app. The largest gripe is that it tries to be a podcast player but badly. Podcasts don’t seem to background download to be listened to offline (there’s some caching once you hit play). Given podcasts are only good if you can listen to them having some background downloads for when commuting with patchy signal this feels like a must. Alternatively have the podcast feed but utilise the default apps settings to let me kick out into a podcast app I have that likely already has it downloaded.Additionally it doesn’t seem to support podcast time links which makes it less than ideal if I’m skipping through.There’s a rough edge where opening a post will open Mastodon or Bluesky, however clicking profile pictures opens the in-app browser. Some ability if I’ve logged in to interact back (like/reshare/reply) would also be nice but it’s a reader (reeder) app and I can easily swipe to open it up in the social media app (though it’s extra button press and this app is very well designed by comparison to some apps!).I’m hopeful the developer doubles down and does some rapid iteration to improve this so it’s my one-stop shop to feeds. But if not, I’ll head back to Reeder Classic and focus on what works best as an RSS reader.

This is an app that really, seriously needs the ability to swipe to the next post.And it doesn’t have it you cannot go to the next post. You have to back out and then manually tap it in a list.For an app that is designed to go through your timeline and read things. It’s just not that good at the job.There’s no option to prevent videos playing automatically for example, so say goodbye to your mobile data.There is also no filtering of the timeline it’s just straight chronological. Which means that there is no real easy way to see what is read and unread. So you better hope that you don’t accidentally scroll somewhere and lose your place.

As others have noted, it takes some getting used to, and has some odd design choices e.g. the filters would be useful, if you could filter by feed or folder, but the inability to do so makes them a very blunt tool; read items in one list will still show up in others, further degrading the utility of filters; the lack of unread counts (or even just a new items marker) on folders or filters causes unnecessary checking; why do you have to tell it what type of feed has just been added, when all the info needed is in the URL?!?Overall I can see the potential, and happily subscribed, but a few small tweaks would make a significant difference.
