I don’t think I,ve written a review on an app in years. I have been using NetNewsWire on my iPad Pro for a few weeks now and it is such a good app that I just have to write about it.I used to have NatNewsWire years ago on my Macs. That long before I got my iPad. It worked well. For some reason I got out of the habit of reading blogs regularly. Then a few weeks ago I idly thought I might like to get back into blog reading on my iPad and I had a look to see if NetNewsWire was available for it and yes, it is and it is really quite excellent. It is so fast and slick, it is an absolute joy to use.When I used it on my Macs I had it synced so I could read on my Mac Pro and my MacBook Pro however I don’t need any sync set up with the iPad because I cam read on it anywhere.The iPad really is perfect for blog reading and NetNewsWire works so well on it.NetNewsWire is such a valuable app to have on your iPad!
It’s fine, but major usability flaw with Deleting feeds

All the reviews praising the app are accurate. But it has a massive usability flaw I can’t believe got through to the release.You perform functions on the feeds by sliding to the left to reveal a menu of three options, one of which reveals a submenu with useful things like Mark All Read.Unfortunately if you slide ever so slightly too far to the left you’ll trigger DELETE FEED and boom, your feed is deleted.There’s no warning, and they don’t ask if youre sure you want to do that. They just delete the feed.This is really bad design. If you manage to trigger the submenu to mark all as read, they ask if youre sure you want to mark all as read. You can turn this safety feature off in the settings. And yet you can’t turn on the same safety feature for deleting feeds.Complained about this and was told, quite condescendingly, that I can undo deleted feeds by shaking my phone to undo.But this isn’t taught to the user anywhere, and honestly Shake To Undo is the most embarrassingly weak feature of the iOS interface. Why isn’t there an undo button prominently displayed after deleting a feed?Why is there no option to turn in warnings after deleting a feed?Why is there no option to change the function that’s triggered if you swipe one pixel too far to the left?Why trigger the far right action at all if you swipe too far? Why not just leave the options on screen for us to tap?Why isn’t the sub menu on the far right, instead of delete?So many questions. All of them a very, very basic usability problem. I expected better from Brent Simmons.
Just needs server push notifications

It's a really nice clean app, well done.The only issue I have is I only get push notifications for new posts when I open the app and it refreshes feeds, which makes them a little pointless. This is due to the app using local notifications, which requires background app refresh to be switched on, but fails to work at all for me even when BAR is enabled, so there is an additional bug here. Ideally the app should move to server push notifications like most other apps, which can be received predictably and without BAR needing to be enabled. I've flagged this on the GitHub bug tracker.

Finally a great open source rss reader on iOS! Fast, smooth, beautiful and minimal. Just needs iCloud sync or something (perhaps even a self hosted option) to share the feed between iOS, iPadOS and macOS so that it’s possible to leave one device pick up on another without losing your place, or just to be able to control your database of feeds from any device. That would make it perfect.
Fixed a bunch of bugs and made some things faster.
