I arrived at this app having worked with countless others (Reminders; OmniFocus; Things 3; OneNote: Evernote; to name but a few). Furthermore, I have recently realised that I have executive function (EF) challenges, and I am going through a formal diagnosis process for ADHD/ADD.This app just works with the way that my mind is wired. Having a blank page for every day it’s perfect for me, as is having an easy way to go back and review/collect any outstanding actions from previous days. Moreover, being able to keep hold of non-date sensitive materials in the undated section enables me to consider using this app for most aspects of daily planning, organisation and notetaking. It’s early days, and I will come back and let you know how things progress, particularly because after 41 years of life, I have tried and failed at many different approaches to managing my life, all of which fall apart when they are no longer new and shiny. But, intuitively, this app is different; and yes, it will take work to maintain it, but there are a number of good indicators that I may at last have found the balance of structure, flexibility, and organisation that is compatible with the way that my mind is wired.

It was five stars all the way for years. I loved this program. Now suddenly, I can’t even figure out how to use it. Fortunately on my Mac, I have the old version, which is a delight to use, and which I own. I bought it, just like I bought the program on my iPhone. I seem to be able to use the program I paid for on my Mac, but it looks like I’m not allowed to use NotePlan on my phone anymore and I can’t sync up between my phone on my Mac. That was the whole delight of the app previously. It was on all of my machines. Now I am assaulted with a proposed “read-only mode“ or I have to pay £90 a year just to be able to read my notes. That is surreal. Bear is £15 a year and Drafts is similar. These are legendary programs. They are stunning. Does the developer of NotePlan think he’s created Parallels desktop or something? That is the same price for a subscription — an entire operating system and all the software with it, including Microsoft Office Suite. NotePlan is the same price as Parallels. It doesn’t seem to be connected to reality. And now, the new version of the app appears to have written over NotePlan 2 on my phone, which I owned outright — so now I can’t use it on my phone anymore, even though it was mine . He appears to have disabled ‘restore purchase’. I have never seen that before. And I don’t think that’s even legal. Please do not write a glib comment about helping me to find a workflow. Just please restore the previous app which belongs to me.

Thank you for your rating. The best place to get help is, however, writing to our support email address: hello@noteplan.co. Apparently, you have purchased in the past the previous version of NotePlan (which is not maintained since years), but now downloaded the new version. To fix this, you need to download the correct version from your "purchased" view of the App Store app. The old version is since years not available for purchase on the App Store. However, please keep in mind, the old version is not maintained and we urge users to upgrade. We can't keep supporting an app forever that was purchased once in the past. This is the risk you take for one-time-purchase products.Best,Eduard
Simple but so innovative

Like other reviewers, I'm delighted to say that NotePlan is now my main task and information management tool. From very humble beginnings, it's turned into a very powerful app for managing tasks, projects and information, complete with (currently so trendy) backlinks and an excellent search function. I've tried most/all of the top task management apps, and NotePlan has gradually displaced them all. Similarly, I have a wide range of information management tools, and NotePlan is steadily replacing those as well. The fact that I'm cancelling many of my subscriptions makes up for the fact that NotePlan isn't the cheapest app around. But its non-proprietary data format means I'm completely confident about using it for so much stuff, because it's easy to access NotePlan data without NotePlan (in fact I do so regularly, using various markdown tools, both on macOS and iOS).Totally recommended – not least because Eduard the developer is so responsive and eats (as they say) his own dogfood!

Initial learining curve but worth it.

I tried Noteplan a few times before, and bounced off it a bit; the workflow just didn't quiet click and I went back to using separate to do, calendar and note apps. However, needing something a bit more robust, since wfh, gave Noteplan another go and this time it just worked. Currently having to keep track of an array of various bits of meeting notes, tasks and information etc and Noteplan is helping me take good notes, structure my time and, importantly, all the information is just a quick search away. Plus the notes are all pain text, so there's no lock-in.While it is a subscription, the updates come regularly and add genuinely useful functionality (the recent update to publish notes to the web is a good example) and the developer is really responsive to feedback and feature requests. Would recommend giving the one month trial a go and see how it goes.

NotePlan 3.21.2 is all about the new Apple Reminders integration: push individual tasks to Apple Reminders and keep them in two-way sync. Alongside it, you’ll find smarter filters, calendar boards grouped by time frame, and a long list of fixes and refinements.
■ APPLE REMINDERS INTEGRATION (@remind)
Push individual tasks to Apple Reminders — just the ones you want, not your whole note.
- Type @remind in a task and NotePlan creates a matching reminder in Apple Reminders
- Add a time, a list, or both right in the tag — @remind(2pm), @remind(2pm, Errands) — all from the keyboard, no dialog needed
- Two-way sync: completing, renaming, or rescheduling on either side updates the other
- Task priorities sync too — "!! task" becomes a high-priority reminder
- Tap the reminder pill to edit it
- Removing the reminder in NotePlan (or deleting the note) deletes it in Apple Reminders too
- Drag a reminder from the timeline or a filter into a note to link it as a task
- Limitations: reminders aren’t available in shared spaces, can’t be duplicated, and can’t be used in synced lines (yet)
■ SPACES
- Backups with restore — long-press a space (or the "Spaces" heading) in the sidebar to create and restore backups; backups are also created automatically daily
- Date links and date navigation now stay in the current note’s space — shared-space date links no longer jump to your private daily note
■ KANBAN BOARDS & FOLDER VIEWS
- Group calendar notes by time frame (day/week/month/quarter/year) and drag tasks between columns to reschedule them — tap the "Calendar Notes" title in the sidebar to open it
- Dragging a scheduled task between days updates its date link instead of moving it out of its note
- Dragging a task onto a calendar day or week number now opens a compact drop menu, like on Mac — link the task, or move it to the top, a heading, or the bottom
■ FILTERS
- New {{currentNote}} placeholder for "path contains" — build a filter that always shows tasks from whatever note you have open
- The "Other" line-type toggle is now granular, matching Mac: choose exactly which non-task lines appear (headings, bullets, quotes, plain text, checklists), plus display options. Tip: select only headings for a table of contents of your note
- New per-filter option to hide the "Add Task" button
■ FRONTMATTER
- Links in property fields are now clickable — URLs, wiki links, and markdown links, even when the frontmatter is collapsed
■ PLUGIN API
- Reminders can be created, read, and updated without a due date, and a new .priority field matches Apple Reminders
- description in plugin.json is now optional — commands without it were silently dropped, breaking triggers like onOpen
- onOpen triggers now fire for calendar notes, and more Apple URL schemes are whitelisted (Reminders, Calendar, Messages, Shortcuts, Notes, Maps)
■ FIXES & IMPROVEMENTS
- The share sheet lets you edit the title when creating a new note, and the keyboard no longer covers the form
- Custom transcription hosts (Groq, local Whisper) work again, and failures show a real error instead of failing silently
- Fixed auto-inserted templates landing on the previous day’s note after a timezone change
- Fixed [[note|alias]] including the alias in the filename when creating the note
- Fixed several freezes and hangs — heavily folded notes with time blocks, opening notes, adding a note in a folder view, and a permanent freeze from stale time-block ranges
